Accommodation:
There are two buildings. Each room is individual. Five rooms have 2 double beds, one has 2 singles, and two have 3 singles. They all have en-suite or private bathrooms with showers or baths. All have central heating.

Hidden behind a thick wall of local stone in the picturesque mountain village of Megalo Papingo, you will find Saxonis Hotel. Formerly an exquisite private home built around 1850; restorations began in 1988, with meticulous care by the owners Nikos and Polly Saxonis. High walled, cobbled paths lead to an impressive solid, iron studded gate that guards the entrance to the pretty courtyards of Saxonis. Bedecked in potted plants, summer visitors enjoy chatting or reading on one of the four patio areas. Crisp blue painted woodwork peeps between vigorous climbers that are entwined around the charming stonework, over the pillared pergola and down, across the walls.

Many of the features as a working family house have been retained, each room preserving its own character and beauty, a fireplace, a fine view or remarkable woodwork. The old cellars were once used for storing wine and dairy products but have now been converted into en-suite bedrooms. The skilled masons and carpenters of that time, loved reflecting the landscape within the house. Alcoves, balconies, recesses, secret cupboards and delicately carved grottoes, were all imitations of those created by the tumbling rivers on rock in the nearby gorge. Today, the interior decor is whitewashed combined with natural stone and wood. The new building blends in perfectly with the surroundings and is attached to the original kitchen. Polly and Nikos have become wonderful friends and will make you feel very welcome. They usually serve breakfast on the main patio throughout the summer season but during early season, you may wish to take it in the dining room. In the cosy living room are tables, comfortable chairs and a fireplace. Over the winter months, visitors come to see the snow and snuggle around the open fire to thrash out wild card games and backgammon. The village atmosphere in the evening around one of the three tavernas is entertaining. Animated conversations of arm waving can be witnessed whilst enjoying the simple, locally produced mountain food.
